Someone said that the common man is back again. Some call him Amar Kaul while others prefer to call him Surendra Sahney. Yes Amar Kaul of ‘Dasvidaniya’ and Surendra Sahney of ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ fame are the new manifestations of the common man or in Congress Party jargon – “aam aadmi”.
What is this common man all about? Well, he works in a small office, has very few dreams and his life is consumed by the daily chores and is almost always lost in oblivion. Nobody would know but there is a hero inside him. This hero cannot jump from the mountains and cannot kill twenty villains with his kick. In fact this hero believes in fighting with time or rather getting ahead of it. He likes to make others happy. His joy lies in getting milk and vegetables for home and if he manages to save some money, then buying fruits gives him immense happiness. His life is never celebrated because he does the ordinary which, mind you, is not perfected by many.
You must be wondering why I am talking about these characters - our common man of today! That’s because I developed interest in these two characters that may seem very similar but are in fact very different. Most of my friends say that I bear a great degree of resemblance with them. I would say that I am not like them right now but chances are that I’ll be like them in ten years from now.
But the two characters pose certain questions the answers to which I don’t have. Was it really necessary for Surendra Sahney to go for a makeover to win a girl and was Amar really not living life until he came to know about his death? I am sure there will be plenty of explanations for this but somehow I cannot find one which could convince me. So, if any of you ever read this and if you have some explanations then do write to me.
Well at the end of the day these are nothing but movie plots created for commercial purpose and may or may not bear resemblance to reality. However, I enjoyed the characters and the questions that I have raised here are similar to the ones that I would ask myself considering the kind of lifestyle I am practicing.
Tab tak…hum hain rahi pyar ke fir milenge chalte chalte…
